Paced Rhythm Following AV Node Ablation This ECG is taken from a woman who had suffered for several years with intractable intermittent atrial fibrillation. She had tolerated medications poorly, and several attempts at electric cardioversion had resulted in only temporary relief. Ultimately, she chose to undergo AV node ablation.
The electrical impulse travels from the SA node to the atrioventricular (AV) node. In response to the impulse, the atrium contracts pushing blood into the ventricles. Then the impulse travels through the atria to the AV node, and then down through the ventricles, causing the heart to beat in a rhythmic and predictable way.
